Bolu Babalona

     Bolu Babalola is 31-year-old author. She was born in Nigeria but spent most of her young years in London. This is where she was educated and brought up. After high school, Bolu furthered her education at the University of Reading. Once she had gotten her bachelor's degree, she moved onto the University College London. London then, is where she gained her Master of Arts in History. (3)

Early Work
In the earliest years of her career, Babalola worked on many small film productions. BBC employed her as a producer and assistant writer. She was key to some of these television favorites. Some of these includes Netflix's original "Netflix and Chill "as well as "The Tracey Ullman Show." Writing was always more her passion. Just a few years later she began writing for large magazine publishers including Vice and Cosmopolitan. (1) Bolu Babalola considers herself a "romcomisseur" and she wanted to express that in her storytelling. Bolu Babalona won 2023 TikTok book award for her novel Honey and Spice. She has also been featured in the New York Times. It is fair to say she has made some great pieces and will continue to do so.


Love in Colour
Love in Colour, published in 2020, is a collection of our love stories from places such as Asia and Africa. All of these short stories have a strong female character. Voice is significant to Bolu Babalola, she writes about empowered women with a great purpose. Babalola considers herself a "romcomisseur" and even goes as far to say that "love defines so much of our human experience: the yearning, the possession, the fear of it, the hope of finding it, and what it propels us to do." (1)  This statement speaks to not only to the Love in Colour novel but many of Babalola's works. 


Honey and Spice
A newer piece of work by Bolu Babalola is known as Honey and Spice. The story takes place on a college campus, this allows for teens and adults to relate to this novel; she refers to the college setting as "delicious"(3). There are many plot twists in this story. This novel is also another one of the authors romantic pieces of writing. Readers of this novel say its "smooth, sophisticated, and sexy"(2)

  1. I found this blog interesting, I learned new things, because I am not familiar with this author. The blog was organized, had beautiful pictures, and the spacing of it was nicely done. There was a lot of information about the author and the two books they wrote. Some of the information had a white bar over it at the end of the blog, however I believe this blog was written nicely.
